SUNRAYS Summer Reading Extravaganza – Week 15
It’s week 15 (and the FINAL WEEK!) of SUNRAYS Summer Reading Extravaganza! Every week this summer we have highlighted books that can help kids learn about composting, recycling, and other sustainable habits. This initiative was part of a bigger campaign with Save the Children’s Make Summer Fair to raise awareness on the “summer slide” – when children lose up to two months of what they learned the year before. We’ve really enjoyed this campaign and hope you’ve enjoyed following and reading along with us!
In this last week we are highlighting The Great Compost Heap by Renaee Smith. In this book the reader is introduced to the idea of composting and how composting helps to further the idea of the 3 R’s, “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle”!
About the Author
RENAEE SMITH was born and raised in Montego Bay, Jamaica. She is a wife, and mother of three boys. “The Great Compost Heap” was inspired by her son’s science experiment as it reminded her of growing up in Jamaica and having her own compost heap from which she was able to grow delicious pumpkins and tomatoes.
