Sunrays® Blog

From The Field: Grapes – February 23, 2021

CHILE RAINS: On January 31st 2021, heavy rainfall hit pivotal growing regions in Chile. We have our local Quality Control personnel onsite evaluating the impact to our program. The same personnel will continue to closely inspect all product packed in the SUNRAYS® label to ensure the highest quality is delivered.

OUR OUTLOOK

Peruvian volumes are winding down, with the majority of growers having finished and others finishing this week with light production. Many Chilean “storage” Thompson growers have begun packing, with the first arrivals due in mid-March. Industry supplies should tighten considerably over the next couple of weeks.

OUR OUTLOOK

Estimated losses on the remaining Chilean red seedless are wide ranging, with the low end in the neighborhood of 30%, but losses could be much higher than that. Humidity and cool temps in the affected growing areas have made the recovery ever more challenging. We expect to see some indication of supplies of reds tightening in the market by very late March or early April. While Peruvian volume is winding down, those combined with what is coming from Chile over the next few weeks will present promotional opportunities through early March.

OUR OUTLOOK
